Do I have to RSVP in order to attend? No, but it does help us with our planning. We don't want to gelt you too much, but you should RSVP. It'll take a minute. Just click here.
What should I bring? Aside from admission cost, you don't have to bring anything. However, you can really get into the Dreidelfest spirit by bringing your homemade Chanukah decorations to add to our community decorations wall and/or your ugly Chanukah sweaters or t-shirts.
I don't have kids, or my kids are not around that day, may I still come? Of course. While the activities are for the kids, you will still have a great time schmoozing with Jews while having a nosh. What's not to love!
Is this a Kosher event? All food products used will have a hechsher (OU, MK, K, CRC, etc.) and will be dairy or parve. All plates, utensils, cups, serving items will either be disposable or new. We will not have a mashgiach monitoring food preparation or handling. The only food that will need to be cooked or heated are the latkes. Latkes are packaged with an OU hechsher and heated at the event in double foil wrapped foil trays in a non-kosher oven. Coffee and tea urns may not come from a kosher facility (TBD).
Will food be peanut or nut free? While we are making efforts to source as many peanut or nut free food items as possible, we do not anticipate that all food will be peanut or nut free. Packaging information for all food items will be available for review at the event.
The best Chanukah music? Really? Yes, this is not just hyperbole. Hear for yourself when DJ HANukkah SOLO melts the gelt with Chanukah music like you've never heard before.
Where can I buy an ugly Chanukah sweater? Online is your best bet. Retrofestive, a Canadian shop, has a DIY kit and sweaters for guys and gals. There are loads on Etsy and over here. Menorah and other Chanukah socks have been spotted in the men's department in The Bay at Conestoga Mall.
Where can I learn more about the Waterloo Region Jewish Community Council? Their website can be found here.
